Alternative Education

A Supportive Environment for Learning and Development

Some children and young people need something different from traditional education before they're ready to successfully access school, college or other learning environments.
Our Alternative Education Centre provides a safe, supportive and flexible environment where young people can rebuild confidence, develop positive relationships with learning and work towards meaningful educational outcomes.

We take time to understand each young person as an individual, including their strengths, interests, needs and previous experiences of education. This allows us to develop personalised programmes that encourage engagement while supporting emotional wellbeing, confidence and independence.

01. Personalised Educational Programmes
Each young person's programme is tailored around their individual needs, abilities and goals. Learning can include: English and maths Functional Skills Practical and vocational learning Independent living and life skills Creative activities Physical activity Personal and social development Communication and relationship skills Activities can be adapted according to the young person's level of engagement and progress, allowing learning to develop at a pace that is appropriate for them.
02. Recognising Progress and Achievement
Where appropriate, young people can work towards recognised achievements through the AQA Unit Award Scheme. The scheme provides opportunities to formally recognise progress across a wide range of learning activities and can be particularly valuable for young people whose previous experiences of education have made conventional qualifications difficult to access. Recognising these achievements can help build confidence, provide tangible evidence of progress and encourage continued engagement with learning.

Supporting Progression and Reintegration

Our aim is to help young people make meaningful progress towards their next stage of education, training or greater independence.

Where appropriate, this may include supporting a gradual transition or reintegration into school, college or another educational setting.

By providing a flexible environment and building learning around the individual, we can help young people develop the confidence, skills and resilience they need to take positive steps forward.

Our focus is not simply on academic achievement, but on helping each young person develop a more positive relationship with learning and recognise their own potential.
