Community Based Contact

Meaningful Family Time in the Community

Our supervised community-based family time gives children and families the chance to spend meaningful time together in environments that feel natural, comfortable and reflective of everyday life. Family relationships are central to a child's identity, sense of belonging and emotional wellbeing, and positive family time can play an important role in supporting healthy attachments and long-term outcomes.

We recognise that children and families may have experienced adversity, separation, trauma or involvement with multiple services, all of which can make formal contact arrangements feel intimidating or artificial. Our staff are trained to respond to this with patience and sensitivity, keeping the focus on the child throughout. By facilitating family time within community settings, we help create opportunities for genuine interaction in a more relaxed and familiar environment.

Family time can take place in a variety of agreed community locations, including parks, cafés, leisure facilities, local attractions, outdoor spaces and activity-based settings. We work closely with social workers and families to identify arrangements that best meet the child's needs, promote positive experiences and support the objectives of the care plan.

Our experienced staff provide a safe and supportive presence throughout the session. Depending on the agreed plan and assessed risks, staff may take an observational role or provide gentle support and encouragement to help interactions remain positive, child-focused and meaningful. Our aim is to create a low-pressure environment where children and family members can spend quality time together whilst feeling safe, respected and supported.

Family Time Reflection Logs

Following each family time session, a detailed Family Time Reflection Log is completed. These records provide objective, balanced and evidence-based observations of the contact session, including:
The quality of interactions between the child and family members.
The child's presentation, engagement and wellbeing.
Strengths observed during the session.
Any support provided by staff.
Significant events or concerns.
The child's views, wishes and feelings where appropriate.
Recommendations or observations relevant to future planning.

Supporting Care Planning & Decision-Making

Reports are shared promptly with the allocated social worker and can support ongoing care planning, assessments, reviews and decision-making processes.

A Child-Centred Approach

At Involve Care Solutions, we believe family time should be about more than supervision. It should provide children and families with opportunities to build positive memories, strengthen relationships and experience meaningful connections in safe and supportive environments. Through skilled supervision, thoughtful planning and clear professional reporting, we help ensure family time remains focused on the needs, wellbeing and best interests of the child.
